Cryptomeria

50 to 60' feet high and 25 to 30' in diameter under good growing conditions. They will grow in sun to light high shade. In heavy shade they tend to grow thinly and more readily develop tip and needle blights. The cryptomeria will grow in a wide variety of soil types but the planting hole should be well drained and not hold water.

It is essential that proper spacing is maintained between the plants. If used as a screen then plant two rows of staggered plants. Spacing between the trees should be at least 8'. Visually this gives a spacing of 4'. which the trees will rapidly fill. Proper growth spacing is essential for proper development and also to reduce the susceptibility to disease development.

This is an excellent alternative to the Leyland Cypress, which has severe disease susceptibility.
