If you are trying to decide which fall color tree you really want to plant, fall is a great time to make the decision. Head to your nursery and see the fall colors on the trees in person. This is much better than trying to decide by looking at photos in a catalog.
For instance, improved red maples such as October Glory and Red Sunset both possess excellent fall color but until you see them in the landscape its hard to decide which you might like. Be aware that even though trees such as these are very uniform in shape and color there can be variations. By picking the tree in the fall at the nursery, you have a better chance of actually getting the color you desire.
